Sunday's meeting was fantastic! Thank you everyone for coming and bringing all your diverse and thoughtful ideas. We reviewed and commented upon the mission statement, seen to your left. The "structure and policies" were also added and discussed. Here is a copy of the structure and policies - please remember this is a serious, yet working document, so it will change some as time goes on.Structure and Policies:
Meetings will be held at a neutral location such as members' houses, libraries, parks, schools or other public spaces. They will be comprised of both structured and non-structured fellowship. Meetings start out with coffee/snacks and socializing, then move on to an agreed upon discussion topic, and then have time for people to bring up whatever is on their mind.
On a voluntary basis, members will rotate the responsibility of choosing and researching a discussion topic. Bringing short articles or stories, or making a brief presentation to begin the discussion is encouraged. Discussion will be generally limited to topics that have relevance to our daily lives.
This fellowship will not tolerate religious evangelism or harassment at meetings. Although some members are proud “evangelical atheists”, evangelism and argument are not the purpose of fellowship meetings. The primary focus is to serve and support each other as nonbelievers. Once we are an established and respected group, we can hold civil debates that are separate from normal meetings.
We envision this fellowship growing big enough to rent/buy a building, and facilitate other services such as: formal public presentations by members or guests, community service projects, childcare, art, music and other cultural expressions, and support groups.
We use the the Blogspot, Facebook and email as an informational and publicity tool only. All decisions should be made face to face at meetings. Each member should have the option to be contacted by phone, Facebook, or email about any meeting changes. This policy ensures that we respect the diverse lifestyles of our members.
